This week is all about celebrating L-O-V-E. And we’re going to show you how it’s done….. in the bedroom!
Whether you bunk up with a special someone or enjoy lavishing in a nighttime sanctuary for one, the bedroom is a special place inside our home that is dedicated to self love, quiet time, reading to enrich our lives, and restful sleeping… among other things. ; ) Unlike other rooms in the home, the bedroom is ultra-personalized and needs not cater to the wishes or desires of anyone other than its occupants. It’s all about YOU! So, to celebrate Valentine’s Day, we thought we’d share some of our favorite bedroom rituals and remind you of a few simple ways you can love and nurture yourself (and your partner, too) in the comfort and privacy of your very own private boudoir.
Personally, I celebrate the nightly ritual of retreating to the bedroom with a few special practices that help me relax and recoup after a long, busy day. Lavender is my go-to scent in the bedroom for its calming and soothing properties. I use both the Lavender Complexion Mist and Lavender Chapstick from PrimallyPure just before hitting the pillow each night. It’s my way to pause and remind myself to relax and allow my mind to fade into “rest” mode. I’ll also take a minute to massage my hands with a restorative salve that helps calm the pain and inflammation that comes along with typing away on my laptop every day. I’m a believer in the natural healing power of topical CBD, and I’m really looking forward to trying Mowellens’ new Dream in Green Whipped CBD Infused Body Souffle – coming soon! After setting my alarm, I resist the itch to mindlessly shuffle through images on my phone. Instead, I keep a great book on hand and ready for 20 or 30 minutes while breathing in my lavender oils before turning off the lights.
(By the way, this is a little off-topic, but because Valentine’s Day is this week…. and who doesn’t love chocolates for Valentine’s Day…. AND we’re talking about lavender………. Do yourself a favor and order Jessica Foster Confections’ White Chocolate Lavender Truffles. Trust me when I say that your troubles will melt away, at least for a moment, the minute one hits your lips.)
A well-outfitted, good quality bed that supports your sleeping style is an absolute must. As an interior designer, but more importantly as an advocate of good health and wellness, please trust me when I tell you that your design budget should always prioritize the practical features of a space. So wrap yourself up, literally, in a blanket of love! You’re going to spend one third of your life in bed, so make it special. Sheets and blankets envelope us in comfort and warmth. If you’re unimpressed with your current sleep situation, try making an easy switch to some wonderful new sheets. I love sheeting that is tactile and soft, so I gravitate toward fabrics like linen or flannel. If you’re into the super silky sheeting, you may want to try a cotton sateen or modal. Whatever your preference, there are a handful of companies that guarantee you’ll love their products so feel free to give a new set a try. I’ve had my eye on @brentwoodhome @coyuchi @parachutehome and @bollandbranch lately on Instagram. Has anyone tried their products yet? I’d love to know!
Take this week to spruce things up in the bedroom! Whether it’s self love or romantic love you’re after, I think everyone can agree that what the world needs now is LOVE, sweet love!
